Metal in cycles?

Ok, I have been working on this pic. I want to make the ends look like metal… I am using cycles, and I have no clue hot to do it. Help? :smiley:

First, add more light to the scene :wink:

Then, do following:
-in the material tab, add another material slot (big + on the right)
-Now add a new material in that slot
-select glossy
-in edit mode you have to select vertices that should be glossy and hit assign under the material slots (with the glossy material highlited)

Voila!

That could apply to the batteries body too

Yup, but he would have to mix diffuse with glossy :slight_smile:

Well, I did, too, but judging from the fact that the OP has already created textures I assume that he’d like to keep them :wink:

Use glossy and add texture to it. Then adjust roughness

I’m liking the wood texture, especially near the the lamp light.
but the scene is still too low on lighting.
and the battery that is closest to me… its metal material looks more like diffuse.

Play with the material a bit, even try a texture if you like =).

looks cool :slight_smile: but you need to make the ends of the batteries much gloosier for that extra realism :slight_smile:
and maybe chuck in a few AAA batteries too?

add a plane with an “emit” material and point it like a lamp at your batteries. this will add a reflection of a shadeless white plane which will show up on the batteries, making them look more metallic.
