Metal text

Hi, how can I push text sharply at center like H in this metal text, cast like?

I am trying to do the same with D

But unable to select the flat face or push the centre line by middle. This is what I have now.

You’re going to have to retopologize the text, most likely. However you can try using the Knife tool to cut that line down the middle, then select that line and press Alt + S to inflate that edge

Thanks. I was hoping to find a method like ctrl R which will give me an outline so that curve is perfect.

In general that’s why it’s best to retopologize a former text mesh, so you can use loop cuts – they only work on quad topology, and all you have here is tris because that’s how Blender converts text to mesh. That topology is ugly and you can’t do much with it as is. Sure, you can use a knife, but you’ll still end up with ugly topology that will probably have shading issues

Quick and dirty retopo for this shape: Before converting the text to mesh, set the Fill Mode to None (so you don’t get those ugly top faces), and undo any extrude – you just want the raw outline of the text. After converting select the outer edge, press F to make a giant ngon (it’ll cover any holes, doesn’t matter). Press I to inset, and do so to about half the letter width. Delete the inset face that remains selected after that. Select both the new inset edge and the edge around the hole and Bridge Edge Loops. Delete the remaining face inside the hole. Extrude the whole letter. Now you have quad topology, and a line in the middle of the top face that you can edge-slide to fine tune and then lift up. You can also now do loop cuts and bevels on them to shape that uplifted area.

It’s not good enough topology to do deformations in animation, but if you’re just rendering modified text it’ll be fine.

If you want more flexibility with a non-destructive method, you can use a bevel with a profile curve. Just ask if you need to know details.
