Metallic looking texture

I am having trouble getting a realistic metal looking texture. I created a sword, and the metal just does not shine and reflect like a shiny sword would. Can anyone help or explain how to do this?


For a start, you’ll want to enable “Mirror” on the material for your blade and set the reflectivity under Mirror to some useful value like .6 or so. Mirror is ray-traced so make sure “Ray Tracing” is enabled under “Shading” in the “Scene” tab before you render. Also, you need to have other objects in your scene to reflect in the blade. In my experience you can’t see mirror if you only have the one object in your render.
