Meteor impact on earth

Hello,

Has anyone heard of a big meteorite impact on a city area lately?
I’ve found this on youtube :

The user that added it claims so much it is for real that I think it’s a fake…
Apart from the fact that it looks CGI’ed… But we are so used to seeing “perfect” special effects on movies that I think reality would seem fake :wink:

Well back to the topic of the fake-ness :

  • to be at the right moment to shoot a falling object is unlikely, but, ok, it’s possible
  • the camera panes to exactly frame the phenomenon, at the exact moment
  • the impact does not make so much noise nor quake, though the falling object seems fast and (furious?) big
  • would a cameraman be so impassible with a meteorite falling down their own feet? (or almost)
  • would not people wail and shout with this coming on?
  • I have not heard myself of such an impact, but ok, I’m kind of an ermite
  • The user who added it claims it is real but does not bring evidence

Voilà. What do you think of it?
I may be wrong, in which case I’d like to have more info about it.

Yeah but well, the visual effect is nice :), isnt it?
But why does that guy claim it’s true while obviously it’s not? Wants to scare children or what?

Well, one of the many clues to its fakeness, is the fact that the sound matches the visuals exactly. This meteor surely travels much faster than sound. You should hear it tear through the air quite a bit after the impact.

I haven’t looked at the link but if it’s the one I think it is then the “smoke” at the end is far from convincing. As to why he claims it’s genuine, you need to follow the link. As I recall it links to a dating website so it’s just a different approach to spam.

I remember reading about the Nazi V2 rockets/missiles during ww2. One of the aspects of those rockets that freaked people out, was the fact that they could not hear them coming. During the air rades of the time, where people could hear the planes and the bombs whistling sound). Now the rockets travelled about 6 or 7 times the speed of sound, thus it would strike its target first, then the sound arrives. I read about one person’s experiences in Antwerpen during the time when the Nazis were firing plenty of these rockets at them - pretty scary stories.

I meteor hit some guy’s house in New Jersey and the homeowner called the police about it.

No charges were filed. :confused:

lol maybe it’s a film given to him by a “friend”. and this friend claimed that it was a real life meteor collision and this guy is so stupid that he believed his “friend” and wanted to show the world how dangerous Impacts are !!! By the way I think somekind of shockwave should appear after an impact with that size but the only thing that moves is the ultra-realistic smoke ;D
