Some schoolkid in Wales took this photo: NASA thought it was a meteor first, but are backtracking now… See here and here for the pics and more info.
Any amateur astronomers want to offer an opinion?

I have to admit I thought the same thing (sunset reflecting off a trail). Apparently it fooled NASA for a bit: reading the BBC site, they changed the text under the picture later on!
As you say, impressive pic though!
Anyone with experience with a graphics program could whip up an image like that in a few minutes.

any graphics editor could whip up enough EVIDENCE of WoMD for george bush to use as evidence that Iraq still has them. (i’m suprised he isn’t smart enough to have done that already)

Well, if there is was a meteor, you’d think they could verify it. Have you guys seen that pic of the shark leaping at the helicopter? That was a pretty slick graphics job I thought.
Yeah, that’s a funny picture. My chem teacher has a copy of it hanging on his wall. I made something like that for my brother, but it’s not as good as that was.

There is only one reason I think this is a meteor:
One just wizzed passed us at 88,000 miles…the closest recordedpass of any natural object yet. The moon is 240,000 miles to give you an idea of just how close that is. These events are more and more frequent, and it seems odd to me that every time a scientist says one is going to hit, they promplty say, “Nonono our new calculations show there is no danger…” as if they have any idea what its going to do. The orbits of these objects are not as predictable as they would have you think. Pluto for example, has only been spotted a couple times with telescopes. It took something like 20 years for anyone to even confirm it existed. So how are they going to track an object the size of a house that has no albedo? They can’t.
This strike in India, this photograph, the one skipping passed the earth, the ones in the recent news skipping passed the earth…
I dunno…seems like something is fishy
