MGP - Environment Thread (9/10/07 Forest Level Progress)

hey I have a few things to mention…

Some of the environment meshses need to be connected… 1, 2 and 3.

Also, the collision box slides an awful lot.

(I hope you don’t take this critique personally)

Maybe you want to add more platforms on top?

Gravity is only active when no other forces are at work on the collision box (unless you release the w key, you wont fall, allowing you to float when the terrain level drops here )

what should the door look like? wood texture? Should it be circular and be hinged on one side? What about two semicircular doors each hinged on a separate side? maybe a circular door that slides out of the way? Anyways, please reply soon, and I can attach those scenery pieces if I am given the OK.

Actually I’ve already attached the level together, and Im working on some little nooks and crannies to hide bananas in. I will post an update soon with everyone’s models in it. As for the door, get creative with it = ) You could make 2 sides of the door that fit together like a puzzle and separate when the switch is opened.

Don’t worry about animating it, i just need the model for now. Thanks!

okay, I have a door :eyebrowlift: I didn’t do the interlocking pieces (kinda ugly) but I need a little help… how do I: 1) pack the texture? 2) upload it for downloading?

  1. Open the door file in Blender.
  2. Go to File --> Pack Data
  3. Save

Then send me the .blend in a PM. I need it ASAP for the big update coming in a few hours.

Good work guys… but don’t forget vertex color shading!

at this point I could easily be kicked from the forums and replaced by a broken record which says “don’t forget vertex color shading”

don’t forget to put on a lightmap, it makes everything so much more realistic.

PlantPerson: What exactly is vertex color shading? Do you just paint normal vertex colors on top of UV mapped meshes or is there something else involved in the process? If you could point me to a good tutorial I would really appreciate it.

Jacco: We’re not really aiming for realism, this was supposed to be a simple n00b game at first.

There’s still a lot of cleaning up to do and things to add. Some textures don’t look right in some places. The .blend files will be released to the team when everything is stable, right now im trying to solve some problems I get when implementing control systems. I hope you guys like what’s been done so far.

Hey! The first big update on the environment!! Cool, Venom! So, all those screens are from one level, right? The raft ride? Those are fixed textures, right? Does the water flow correctly? Is it possible for me to stop asking these questions?

Looks good! If we implement the new character version, it’ll be comin’ along. I’m working on the character’s inventory right now.
