Microsoft showing how stores can trash Linux. And also show a dead, chopped up Tux?

I love Windows XP, but I think I do have a reason to dual-boot 64 bit Linux just so I could use all my RAM for Blender. Whatever the case (and by no means I’m giving up XP), just showing that if you’re bashing Linux on these forums, Microsoft has also decided to get in the game and help out as well so you can convince others to get Windows 7 that uses up half your RAM for the 64 bit version and make you move 100’s of gigs of files to USB drives to upgrade unless you have the equivalent version of Vista.

Well, at least Microsoft if finally admitting that Linux poses some sort of threat or competitive challenge. Before, they wouldn’t even acknowledge the enemy. heh. This is gonna get interesting. I wonder why Best Buy - are they selling systems with Linux installed?

I almost want to go to best buy just to find some arrogant employee who barely knows what RAM is, and rip their every statement to shreds. I hate “computer people” like that.

I believe that Linux is great, though windows defiantly has some advantages in terms of hardware support (mostly for strange hardware which needs special software).

Three weeks ago the Vista installation on my laptop stopped booting (long story, but I can’t explain it and to fix it takes a clean re-install). I was kind of upset (had done a clean re-install 2 weeks earlier and booted Vista twice since), until I worked out how to do everything I need on my Ubuntu install (was missing 3 windows-only programs). Now I don’t even care that I can’t boot into Vista!! Such a relief. Just for the “security” (ironic, I know!) I’ll probably ditch that Vista install and either install off an old XP disk I have (though I’m not using it atm), or wait for 7.

Omg, get over it. Microsoft’s mission is to get its software into every computer so you would expect them to want to do that.

I dont see any kind of trashing going on there. Most of those things are true about Linux. Now I know some of you fanboys will argue but you should consider that not everyone knows what to type into terminal to make things work.

Best get those torches ready, you can never over over-react.

Are you trying to start a childish argument? You shouldn’t call people “fanboys” just because they do not agree with you. :eyebrowlift2:

In the end, i just wish that people would get to try out linux too. Nowadays consumers
almost always seek to know a lot about the products they buy, but not when it comes to their quite expensive operating system. I have heard quite a lot of “No, i am not running Windows, I’m running Vista” lately.

And you wonder why people call you a troll???

hmmm…

Person on windows computer:
OMG, blender doesn’t run without python?? what the hell… (goes to python.com, “EWWW, PORNSITE!!”)
googles python, clicks the first thing. Dammit… am I running 32 or 64? Do I want 3.2? 2.6? 2.5.2? WHAT THE HELL???

Person on linux computer:
Oh, bender doesn’t run without python, no problamo 8) opens terminal and types: sudo apt-get install python25

CABLAMO

No comparison…

oh by the way, the windows user committed suicide after python.com installed hundreds of thousands of viruses on his computer and logged every keystroke with spyware, sent it to a little nerd blending naked infront of his computer, and stole his identity…

Coulda had a ubuntu 8)

So essentially what you’re saying is that the windows user is is too stupid to understand what python is and doesn’t know the specifications of his own operating system. Thanks, that really clears things up for me. I was totally unaware that I must be a moron.

Personally, I think it’s the OS evangelists such as yourself that are the real idiots, on both sides. Makes me sick, actually.

Come on people. Lets not start a flame war.

Microsoft is obviously going to put down other operating system other than themselves. (And yes, Apple does the same thing). They do this for $$$.

Now to be fair, all the operating systems (Windows, Linux, Mac) have their own advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, the advantages / disadvantages make all the OS’s about the same.

At the end of the day, the “best” operating system is one that your conformable with, and gets the most work done in your particular field of interest.

hahaha. owned lol. Thanks for that. I needed a good laugh.

And just to clarify that I do not call anybody who doesnt agree with my view a linux fanboy. Its the people like Killer in this thread that I call fanboys because they just cant wait for the opportunity to slate windows and those who use it.

Ok, I was not referring to every windows user, just the standards. I’m comparing the 2 standards, the standard linux user, and standard windows users.

Look up the stats, probably 80 to 90% of all windows users don’t know what the hell they’re doing. This is because 90% of computers come with windows preinstalled. Usually they never realize there ARE options out there for OS’s, but because everything comes “preinstalled” they feel like they never need to do anything, which is why I pointed out that the downfall of the windows user was the virus, because it is the downfall of most windows computers.

In the end, everyone who uses a computer has a choice, 75% of windows users don’t realize they have a choice, they never look into the benefits of linux, they just know what “computer people” like the employees of best buy tell them. They think they’re geniuses.

I am a mac and linux user. For you people who say apple just wants money, think again. When I was at the apple store I “quizzed” the “genius” working there, he actually RECOMMENDED linux to me! He said he uses linux, but he owns a mac machine.

If you’re on windows you can run windows programs, mac runs mac programs, linux runs every program =P

The best thing about open source software is the fact that there’s an abundance of drivers, because anyone can develop for it, you don’t need to be in a stuck up big ass company to make programs, or be a “complete” nerd.

trolled hard

Seriously…I have nothing better to do than post here…
BTW:
I use windows.
I hate MS(not windows)
Ubuntu is awesome
Ubuntu has only a fraction of the software of windows.
when I say Ubuntu I am refering to all Linux kernel OSes.
Ubuntu is not “user friendly”, because we all have our windows paradigm.
Mac/Apple always has good ideas, Windows and Linux make them work though.
java, I won’t say anything about java.(else)
only children use terms like “owned”
illiterate children use terms like “PWND”
I hate spinach.
I am an idiot.
so are you if you read this much.

Wait… let me read that line again…

Mac/Apple always has good ideas, Windows and Linux make them work though.

M$ really did that with the zune didn’t they? Especially with the recent mac WWDC, when they announced the ipod has… what? 97% of the market in MP3 players?

What about the iPhone/iTouch, M$ really made those work didn’t they? Especially with over 40 million products in that line sold… iPhones own the phone industry, completely tore it apart.

Can you compare WMP with iTunes? Did you even see the new iTunes 9.0… didn’t think so…

How about the computers? Mac made the lightest computer to date, did M$ make that work? Granted it doesn’t have the best hardware, but can M$ make a computer that can fit in a manilla folder?

Can you update all your core programs on your computer with the touch of a button?

How about gaming? Can windows run mac games? That’s funny… Mac can run windows games…

Can windows run linux programs… oh… that’s right… windows isn’t UNIX…

Can you make iPhone apps from a windows computer? I’m sure that was a GREAT idea from apple, M$ REALLY stepped up their game to “make that work”

Does windows have an amazing developer suite like Macs? Can you create fully fledged programs by dragging and dropping elements? Can you run: Windows, Mac, and Linux on the same computer… at the same time? I know I can

Can you run duel boot mac on windows? I can duel boot windows on my mac

The list will go on, but I’m busy and have to go, so I’ll stop it at that. Maybe, just MAYBE one of you windows users would give mac/linux a try, if your not satisfied that’s fine, but if you love it, don’t let me say I told you so

Yeah, most Windows users just focus on the applications they’re using. Linux fanboys are different. They have to shout to the world, “I AM USING LINUX!” Then the usual, predictable MS bashing. Don’t you peeps have anything better to do or what? Are you so insecure that you have to spit hatred and venom on insignificant things like… an OS?

By “make them work” he meant “rip off”. The Touch Diamond and Zune are both just that.

Not that I should get involved, but…

How about gaming? Can windows run mac games? That’s funny… Mac can run windows games…

Can windows run linux programs… oh… that’s right… windows isn’t UNIX…

Everything you mentioned above can be done on Windows too.

I have tried to understand this “Linux attitude” for a long time. The only thing I can come up with is that most of these people are little geeky kids with no friends. They feel like they are a part of some underground movement and they seem to feel like they are so much more intelligent because they use Linux. Ubuntu forums is a disgusting place just because of this kind of attitude and its suppose to be a support forum for Ubuntu.
