Hi again everyone!
Here’s a little project from this weekend. I was browsing high speed ballistic photographs (photographs of bullets in mid air) one evening and this image just popped into my head. I’m not saying that this haven’t been done before, but the image was so vivid in my mind I had to try and bring it to life.
Pretty much everything was made in blender and rendered in cycles. I had way too much fun trying out different smoke patterns with smokesim
Final composition and color correction in photoshop.
I added the source of inspiration into the first post, I’d suggest everyone to go see some of those amazing photographs. You can propably recognize the look and style I was aiming for there too :eyebrowlift2:
The whole background is covered with volumetric smoke, which as far as I know works only when rendering with cpu. So it would have taken ages to render it completely smooth. Sure I could have blurred it out in post, but I like the grainy look and I think it coops well with the idea of high speed photography as one would have to play with high ISO sensitivity.
True, the noise makes it compress a bit poorly, but still I don’t see that much distortion in the full size jpeg though. I’ll see if I can whip up an uncompressed version online sometime soo.
The gun is actually held with a proper two hand grip, and the fingers most visible belong to the left support hand while the trigger is being squeezed with the right hand underneath. You can see the reference in the link I added to the first post.
