Military facility, newbie project

:o I feel horrible now. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been reading tutorials and practicing for almost 2 months and I couldn’t make this. It looks great!

Heh… well i can tell you that ive been practicing about 12 hours a day :stuck_out_tongue: now I’m well up on my 4 or 5th day. That makes just about 60 hours of intensive training :stuck_out_tongue: If you have questions, even though I’m probably not the most qualified, then you can always ask me. I’ll do what i can.

How do i put the norm function on the world texture? When i select the world tex. the shading button doesn’t show any info.

Does anyone know how to make a 3D world you can move around in? This would make the project easier to show to you guys.

ohh i get it well in that case you should put a glass spherear around it or somthing cos it dont look a lot like it

but i gi have to say its very good

Glass sphere… hmm… destroya!!! Hehe… welll it will look like the destroyer from SW… hmm thought i had made something original xD I’ll look into it

It’s going great! Thx to all your comments

I have hit a bump… i can’t go on unless i lear some intermediate mesh editing. A little like the kind you use for cars, you know… the smooth rounded shapes. Its it NURBS? If you dont know what i mean then look at the “WIP-My First car”, it’s probably in the top of the forum. Heeelp…

Tell us what you’re wanting to do so we can help you. lol

I need to make a cylindrical object with holes in. A machine gun to be more precise. I can’t cut round holes :s

Just an idea, probably not the best way. I assume you meant holes in the side of the cylinder

Cut out a portion of the side, create a circle, and use extrude a couple times (extruding out so you’re left with a hole in the middle). Then grab the vertices and line them up with the rest of the cylinder.

Would this be what you are looking for?
Here’s the .blend file so you can see what I did and duplicate it.

You’ll probably have to up the amount of verts from what I have there. I didn’t take the time to actually make the hole really round, but I think it gets the point across.
Let me know when you have the file, because it’s coming off the server as soon as you do.
Happy blending.

I would first thank all the ppl who have helped me in here. The projekt is speeding ahead really fast now and i would think it’s about 50% done.

Soter/the avenger:
Both hints were really usefull, thanx!

I added:
light fixes
material fixes
grass/moss on the floor/earth

Ill give you a little preview of what I’m gonna do:
Add rain
Add water
add weapons
Correct the stupid simple guy with 1½ leg
shift skymap
read and follow fireworks tutorial to create explosions
add shooting windows
add fence with barbed wire
Shells on ground
adding stairs and platforms inside the turret
add simple mesh that will look like a plane far away

It’s going to be a night picture, you will get the impression that the base is under attack! Some explosions and shells one the ground shooting from the windows. Dead bodies floating in the water and a plane soaring over the skies.

NOTE: front pic updated

C&C is always greatly apreciated

Sounds ambitious! Look forward to seeing the outcome.
Do you need me to keep that file online, or can I take it off now?

You can take it down now. Thx for the help!

I have problems with the rain… i can get the waterplugin to function but my raindrops wont fall down…

I’m using this tutorial. I tried to adjust the Z value, but… did’nt work. I’ll keep working on it

Are they moving at all? If they’re moving in the wrong direction it might be that the normals of your grid are facing the wrong way.

I just followed the tutorial and it works for me.

Hmmm… i can try again… I will as soon as i get to my home computer.
