Mimo, a short film of an office lounge chair

The audio was twisted due to copyright issue on Vimeo… Here’s a Youtube link just in case the Vimeo dosen’t work, the quality is worse tho.

This is the 2023 “remastered” version of the video made for the office soft-seating design for Actiu 2 years ago, if you are interested in more detail check out: https://www.behance.net/gallery/114393223/MimoOffice-Loung-Chair-Design-%28and-a-bit-of-interior%29

Since there was no rush for the video around this time, I took time and effort making it and the complexity of the process made it its own standalone project. Enjoy the video and the behind the scene materials if you’re interested to know how the sausage was made.

Modeled and rendered in Eevee 3.1, later edited in Davinci Resolve.

The rain drop is simply a not so simple procedural texture made by the 3D artist Amin Missaoui. Free to download [here]

The steam of the coffee was rendered with Cycle in a separate file then imported as a billboard texture due to hardware capability limitation…

The droplets were hand animated using meta ball, because my laptop couldn’t afford a proper fluid sim. (and the fact that the droplets only appear in a few frame with motion blur so it doesn’t really matter that much)

The leaf wiggling was the trickiest part of this project because it’s partially a soft body simulation but also armature driven animation.( like boobie jiggle mechanism)

And I named this shot Buttonflies because of the obvious reason:)

If you’re familiar with Eevee you know how tricky it would be to make the first rack focus shot through the rainy window … Apart from that, the coffee steam was also a compositing work done with Davinci Resolve, in which all the anamorphic lens effects such as distortion, vignette and lens flare were added, too, right after the color correction and color grading process.

Really love the colors! Few animations like the leaf folding was really well done. For some scenes the scale looked a bit weird. Not sure if its just me. But well done overall!

Hi everyone,

Here is the “Behind the Scenes” article of this stunning artwork!

Do check this article written by the artist himself. It describes the process of making the artwork step by step with an insight on making photo-realistic models in Blender.
