This is the first building I’ve ever done in blender.
I like the building itself how it is at the moment, what I really need help with is the background. I’d like to use an image or an HDRI.

Update on this coming soon!
Is there any way you could turn up the saturation of the background image? I think the biggest problem right now is the building you modeled is in full color, while the background is greyed out. While you do get some greying with distance, the scale of the background buildings makes them look fairly close, not ‘mountains in the distance’ faded.
Nice model, btw, but wouldn’t it have some windows on the parking lot side?
The background is fine, just add some atmospheric perspective to your model. A little moisture in the air that becomes slightly denser the farther from the camera you go.
Okay, thanks, I think that will look great! And yeah, there are more windows on the side side you can’t see.
Here is the reference image I started out trying to copy and then just used as help.
If someone could find a high res image that would look good for a background, that would be great! I can’t seem to find one. It can be and HDRI or a regular image. HDRI would probably be better, but either is fine. If someone lives in or near a city that has some empty gas-station-esc lots and also has the ability to make HDRIs that would be even better, but I can’t pay anything.
To really sell the background you may need to create some more buildings or structures between your minimart and the background. Something that might be cool is to draw some power lines on you background image in gimp that extend toward the camera, then in blender connect to the power lines in 3D. Also, the background seems to have been shot from eye level so your camera will need to be at eye level. See how you can’t see the rooftops in your background? Lower your camera angel so you cant see the rooftop of your minimart. Consider parking spaces and shopping carts out front to add some depth between the camera and the minimart and the painted lines will help define the plane your building is resting on.
Also the texture on your roof panels look like concrete, make it look metallic
Okay, I’ll try all that.
