Mipmaps failed me :(

A while back I had this problem: the textures were all fuzzy and staticy.
Yet again, I am faced with this problem…

It’s supposed to be because the “mipmaps” aren’t enable, BUT NO!
They are, and yet this still happens.

Like last time, it only happens when changing scenes. It’s painful to watch,
and is EEEEVVVIIIIIILLLLLL >:0

Any suggestions?
Thanks

SOMETHING ELSE I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH:
I have a Mouse Cursor enable for the menu, but when changing scenes it carries over.
Yet, playing it directly from the game, it is not present. What is this sorcery?

  1. Mipmap interpolation is what makes the textures smoother over distance, and disabling mipmaps in User Preferences makes the textures sharp and crisp when they’re scaled up. So, is mipmaps enabled? Do you want your textures to be pixelly and crisp, or smooth (like normal 3D games)? As a side-note, if you find your textures are getting smoothed out sharply (i.e. you can see a line), you might want to try adjusting your graphics driver settings.

  2. What do you mean “directly from the game”? You mean with a standalone executable?

  1. I added materials on it, (grass) it looks good but for some reason the trees are better too. I didn’t do them, just the grass… :expressionless:
    I’ll play around with it

Edit: Huh, strange. When I added the materials, it looked good, I turned off mipmaps and it returned to the ugly mess that is staticy textures of awfulness! I guess this problem is fixed  You see, I never add materials to my textured surfaces. Maybe that’s why it did that?!?? :0

  1. What I meant to say was directly from the scene, in the game engine. (Pressing P on screen, sorry 'bout the mix-up)

Have you made sure all of the dimensions on your textures are to the power of 2? E.g. 256x512. I found my textures became a lot clearer when I started doing that.

I just download off random sites, the grass is 600x600
Anyway, the problem is sorta fixed. I don’t think I will encounter it again with this game.
The REAL problem now is the mouse. Don’t think it’s necessary to create a new thread for it though.

Like TheDave said, it’s best to use a power-of-two sized texture, so that the BGE doesn’t interpolate it funnily, if I recall correctly.

you mean the system mouse cursor?

Check the cursor library
