Mirror - reflection help

I want my objects to reflect another object, but i don’t want that object to appear in the render. I can’t figure out how to do it. If anyone can help me out i would appreciate it.

There are several ways to do this. First, Blender can Map image on to surface of an object as a reflection. Second common way is to use HDR image background and reflect it using reflective surface material. Here is HDR setup tutorial.

hmmm that didn’t help a whole lot… is there any way to do that with an object? so i see the reflection but not the actual object?

Yes there is a way through render layers, but I have not found a way to keep shadows for one and turn them off for the other aside from more compositing…


aha figured it out! under materials in the transparency section you hit mask and turn the alpha to zero.
