Missing buttons from tutorial...

Hey. I’m brand new to Blender, and to 3D modeling in general, and I’ve been watching the tutorials from Blender’s home page.

I’ve run into a problem with the one about modeling with subdivision surfaces. The guy in the video uses a small set of buttons (catmull, subsurf numbers, “optimal” mode, etc) that are totally absent from my menu as I’m attempting to follow along. Does anybody know what I’m talking about or how to fix this problem?

If you are using B 2.49 go to ButtonsWindow>Editing or just hit F9, find Modifiers tab then AddModifier>Subsurf.

Tutorial may show older Blender with different layout.
… and welcome to community

I don’t know what I’m using. I assume it’s the most recent one, since I just downloaded it a few days ago.

By the way, Jawra, thanks for your help. I found the menu you were talking about.

When you start Blender, splash image appears and you can see at the top of it text like : Blender 2.49 for latest stable version or Blender 2.5 Alpha 1 for upcoming new version. And it’s BIG difference because new B2.5 has quite different, new UI layout. So check it out.

EDIT : You were a bit faster
