I am currently planning to make a low poly model of a human and I came across a small problem. Should I model the clothes and just ignore what’s underneath or should I first model the character’s body and then make the character’s clothes, accessories, etc as a separate object? It’s a dumb question I know, but it seriously messes you up and gives you a lot of frustration if you don’t know (modeled it a few times and gave up a few times too)
How much body will show. If it always has clothes Just do not model that part of the body that is covered.
2 You can model the body then after it is rigged duplicate the mesh, now you have a mesh for clothes that moves the same as the body. Make the mesh a new object.
It really depends. Loose fitting cloth is different from tight fitting one. Loose fitting cloth has geometry of its own. There is no point in working with mesh underneath. Tight fitting cloth will closely follows body contour beneath and it may be a good idea to work on body contour. Here is low mesh character with loose and tight fit cloth:
So tight clothes just model the body and loose clothes, model them separate?
And Kazinger, I don’t understand what you are talking about (sorry I don’t much experience with rigging). Could you explain it a bit more detailed?
Here is the issue for me. It goes to when you are ready to rig and pose.I had tried this back in 4.9x (with a free downloaded body wireframe) and could not keep the clothes from entering the body mesh. Its about keeping a distance between different objects, however they are manipulated. physics to a degree. Constraints?
I am still learning, finally got down doing a basic human head, and fiddling with the differences between male and female.
