Model viewer for showing off your models.

I am building this for my work so that I can showcase the models I have made for clients on a touch screen computer.

It took me a lot of digging, asking for help, and trial and error to get to this point. I assume because it was so hard for me to figure out, it might make the life of someone else easier.

I am still improving it but it works fine currently. All you have to do is put your objects on a layer, make sure the layer is active (as well as the layer with the camera and empty on it) and push “P”. The script should automatically arrange your objects in a circular pattern and set the camera to the correct location. Then all you have to do is click the left or right arrows on the screen to rotate to the next object.

It does not (yet) support groups of objects or orienting the objects towards the camera so you will have to orient the objects correctly yourself. (until I figure out how to make it automatically do this).

I hope this is useful for someone and if anyone has any problems let me know. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this!

why is it for touchscreen devices only?

I didn’t mean to imply that it was only for touch screen devices. I am making it for a touch screen at work but you can do whatever you want with it.

Eventually I do want to make it to where instead of left and right arrow buttons, you can swipe the screen left or right and also put it into a “model view” mode that allows you to use your finger to rotate the view around the model the camera is focused on.

It can absolutely be used for anything else you want to use it for.

Does anyone have any problems with this so far? I had one person tell me that it would only rotate once and then stop. It works fine on my computer and I don’t have any others to test it on so if you have problems let me know what version of blender you are using and what its doing.

Cool. Works for me. I tried it with up to 170 objects and it was no problem - well I had to increase the viewing distance on the camera. i also added some mist to fade objects a bit into the background. It would be nice if they would start a turntable rotation when they come in front of the camera. It might also look nice to have a 3 point lighting set-up for the objects on display while the other objects maybe just use rim lighting. I’m not sure how to make any of this work with your set-up but I may play around with it in the future as I learn more.

Its pretty slick and will definitely be useful. With a little polish I’d use it to show model concepts to clients or it could be adapted for viewing items/weapons that can be collected in-game.

Thanks for sharing, I’ll be interested to see any further development.

Hmm would be intresting to know how this works for objects in different scenes. As you have to link the objects on the first scene ill guess its getting tricky here.

But thank you for the effort, it´s in my script library.
