I’m trying to create a model for a sash/ribbon.

You could use a bezier curve. Increase the curve extrude value to give thickness and use Ctrl+T on a control point to twist it.
Then convert to a mesh Alt+C for refining

Thanks a lot Richard. See picture of my first attempt.
I basically used two joined Bezier curves with an extrude value. And then used Tilt on the end points of both curves. Not the control points. Switching to 3D mode also helped
How did you manage to have one end ribbon over the other instead of intersecting each other?

Just moved the control in 3d space so it doesn’t intersect
I basically used two joined Bezier curves
Start with a bezier circle and in edit mode use Alt+C to open it, then just move the two ends until they cross each other.
I went add >> brazier curve >> convert to mesh, but my result looks different for some reason.
