Modeling an ocean and island (top view)


I’m working on a board game and I want to create the board tiles images (hexagons of about 7 cm in width) in blender…

'The game is based “at sea” and I want to give it a bit of a carribean look (think asure seas, shallow transparent waters, small islands (atols), etc…).

Now I’ve followed some tutorials to create oceans, but they’re not really what I’m looking for.

I’d like to model some seabed first, with some rocks scattered, then add the water “layer” and finally model some low poly islands… The whole should be rendered top-view.

Any suggestions on approaching this? You could think about think about the water used in Age of Empires 3.
