Modeling Clothing

Hello all. Been a while since posting or doing much of anything in blender actually. So I thought I’d go ahead and freshen myself up a bit by making some characters. No images to post because I don’t have a problem with the model, I used MakeHuman for that (yes, I’m lazy:p). But anyway, I am attempting to create a characer right now, and focusing on the clothing part of the modeling. As of now, I have a nice body to use as a guide for the clothing, but other than that, I don’t have much else to go off of. See, I’ve never found much in the way of clothing tutorials, and after some searching around on the forums, I didn’t find much here either.

So I’m asking if anyone knows better than I, if you have seen or know of any said tutorials, pease post. Anything to do with clothing is fine as I’d like to learn as mych as possible, but specifically, I am looking more for “modern” type clothing involving jeans and T- Shirts. Though T-shirts (knock on wood) will proabaly be the easier of the two. Oh, three, forgot shoes. And jackets, like windbreakers…anyway, you see where I’m coming from.

Please post!

I may consider making a tutorial with shoes. I just finished making mine today after adapting it from Hexagon. But for the shirt and pants, that might take a while.

Wow. That was fast.

But yeah, if you could, that’d be nice. I started playing around with making jeans, and so far, the hardest part has been making the pockets. I’m not trying to go for a game model with textured pockets, I want something as close to the real thing as possible. I have some stuff outside (hsssss outssside…) I need to do, some errands, but when I get back, I’ll take a better look at them, since I actualy got something that started to look interesting.

On another note, I think I’ll actually take the stitching out of a pair of my jeans and see how they actually fit together, since all the seams and folds are made from essentially seperate objects, I think the easiest way to make the pants in blender is through the same means.

Making pockets on a pair of pants are pretty simple. If you think about it it’s nothing more but a plane and all you have to do is to create it to wrap it around the upper thigh to the side of the leg. No need to ruin a decent pair of pants.

I didnt say they were decent :stuck_out_tongue:
They’re pretty beat up and shredded already. But yeah, I’ve been mulling things over, and I’ve got some ideas. But right now I’m gonna sleep. Hopefully will get more done tomorrow.

Right, just saying I’m not quite finished with this yet. Here are a few screenshots of the progress so far after I finally got twenty minutes to work on the jeans. Not much to look at right now, I know, but the thing right now is the pronciple of the matter. The render isn’t really important, so we’ll move on to the screen shots. In the first, you can see the topology of the current jeans. Its nice and even, and the way the loops are vertical is important since now what I can do is apply the mirror, then pull verticies around to make the fly. I’m not sure if you’ll actually be able to follow what I’m saying, (I’m not even sure what I just said) but suffice to say that simple duplicating the pelvis and legs of the figure is not an option as seen in screenshot two.
