Hello guys, the reason why I opened this thread is to hear your opinions and advices about my modeling process. I will try to cover all the techniques (poly modeling, curved based modeling as well as sculpting).
So here is the first modeling tackle of the “Old place” scene that i have been worked on. Like I said it will only be only modeling subject to critique, since I’m new to Blender 2.5
You don’t put plant pots or anything else in front of a mailbox! Sorry, I used to be a mailman. Not much to say on the moddeling actually, looks quite nice.
Yeah, I don’t see anything at all that I would say, “I wish this had been done differently,” or “more detail is needed here-or-there.” It looks to be clean, well-detailed, and usable.
So here is the image model that I’m going to tackle in terms of architecture. It’s going to be a “Pink Palace” house, which everyone remembers from cartoon “Coraline”.
My only fault that I can find with the first picture that you made is that the barrel tiles on the roof don’t have end caps. Most barrel tile roofs I’ve seen have caps on the lowest rows of tiles which are set in a bit, with a small hole in the center for drainage. But that’s just been my experience. I think it would give your roof a finished look.
Forgetting that tiny little thing, though, the modelling is top notch. =D
@bat3a: Thanks, well for the coloring it have to wait since I am currently only focusing on modeling. But yes when next subject comes (texturing) it will be done too
@JDaniels: Yes you are right, I will find some reference and correct the roofs. I have something more to add for this front part of the house, in terms of detailing.
Here is the image that I forgot to post (from the other angle)
Great work! I really can’t find anything wrong with either images. How’d you make the brickwork and the boards? Whenever I’ve done either of those I’ve used array modifiers and I would love to know how to create that level of intentional imperfection you have going.
Well the boards were made by creating one single board. Modified the board (I added 4 loop cuts on board and modified them), duplicate the modified board, and modified the board again. And I do that for 5-8 boards until I get something I can use for variation. After that i actually copy for example 4 boards rotate them 180 degrees. After that I used the combination “method”, selecting every second or / and third board and / or do the modification / rotation.
For the bricks I used the similar process, create one brick, duplicate it modified it and then after I get for example 10 bricks i then select few of them and modified them, just to have as many as I can. After doing so I always pay attention on variation. Unfortunately you can’t get that variation using arrays. Arrays i used for the wall planks and roof.
Probably in next update I will focusing on finishing the front part, by adding some curvature shapes in front of the entrance. And I will probably replace the bottom part (walls with holes - Boolean shape ), with old planks that will be going in cross direction…we shall see
You have a great work going on there! Lots of detail.
I have a few questions about it, hope you can answer them. How did you set up your lighting to make the renderings? Did you use AO? Internal Blender Render? keep the nice work!
