I’m following one of the car wheel tutorials to model a high end custom wheel (it’s either a Gianelle or Giovanna wheel) to use on my vehicles, and to share with anyone else who wants a fancy custom wheel of course.
I wasn’t able to find a good straight on perspective as the cad drawn example in the tutorial and thought I would give it a shot anyway despite the camera angle.
Attached is my blend file if you want to take a look. If you load the blend file (I’m using ver 2.64a) and rotate a little you can see I’ve started to extrude the sides down the wheel ‘spokes’ to get some thickness and get past the 2D stage.
My problem is probably obvious right off in that due to the camera angle the mirror portion does not match up with my background reference image at all. The right side ‘spoke’ is my direct work and the left side is the mirror.
Do you think I should scrap this and look for a flat perspective image to build from? Or if I keep going to duplicate/spin this piece to build the interior wheel component do you think it may start to come together and look OK even if it’s out of shape with my reference pic?
Any advice would be great!
(I know ahead of time this is rough work and needs a lot of fixing to get faces and parts lined up nicely)
