Modeling full body clothing?

Was curious if anyone had suggestions for modeling full body style clothing, think similar to power rangers or kamen rider. ie Tightly fitting, accessories, and the like.

One reason comic book superheros wear skin tight costumes is it is easier to draw. You simply draw the superhero naked, then paint the skin so it looks like a costume. No additional drawing needed for lapels, cuffs, buttons, pleats, folds or wrinkles. The same is true for skin tight 3D CG clothing: just take the skin and paint the costume on. For accessories fastened tightly to the skin tight costume, duplicate part of the mesh where ever the accessory is attached, and use that as a base to extrude and model the rest of the accessory (bandolier, utility belt, cargo pocket, armored plate, etc.)

for cloths like that, you could model the body without any details such as bellybutton, armpits, bones, hips, spinebone, butcrack, knee etc, and when done, just select the part of the body that you would like to add cloths to, and simple duplicate it, separate it, and add a solidify modifier.

Duplicate > Separate > Solidify
Shift D > P > Modifiers - Solidify

bad example…

this has a lot more details to it so it looks quite strange… but if you keep everything smooth while modelling then you should get something that looks like a costume.

also you can easily modify the second object to make it smoother.

Good to know! I wasn’t sure whether that would be the best way or creating the model and adding the clothing on top of it would be best (though I suppose if I want to simulate wrinkles and such on the fly the later might be better). I will look more into this duplicating and separating stuff. I learned some modeling on Maya but my teacher… Wasn’t the best so basically reteaching myself how to do it all in Blender since I didn’t have any of the other supporting programs to go along with maya.
