Modeling Small Details

I’ve been into modeling for about a month or two and I’ve gotten good at box modeling but i’m having problems adding smaller details. What is the best method to do this? Should i rely on sculpting or should i try to model some of the details in the box model?

Sorry for such a simple question but it’s kind of got me stumped lol

You can apply to 1 level of subsurf to a copy of the box model and then add the details to the denser mesh. You can then apply another subsurf modifier with 1 or 2 levels of subdivision.
