Modeling stylized hair as single piece

So I’ve been trying to model a friend’s character and I’ve got almost everything done but the main issue I’ve been having with it is making the hair. I tried making hair with curves but I feel it didn’t have enough volume. In the character reference images(2.) they have pretty fluffy hair, so I tried box modeling pieces(1.) and it started to look ok. But the issue with that was I couldn’t figure out how to connect them all into one mesh. I looked up some models online and I found a general idea of what I want it to look like(3.) but can figure out how to do it. So can somebody help me make my models hair look like the example(3.) all as one mesh, or tell me about another way to try making the hair.

1. Model currently:

2. Character reference images:

3. Hair model reference:

You didn’t show any wireframes for your model.. but if the also do have only four vertices in the cross section then you may “simply” connect them properlu ? Id using six or even eight this might be a bit harder.. but nevertheless doable.

Here’s what my model looks like, they aren’t connected at the moment just individual strands

Head without hair:

and each piece has 5 verts on the end I’m looking to connect all of the pieces

Well.. if you look at the reference then you see how this is a planned line up and in your case (also beeing slighly more complex) the “line up” is somehow coincidence.. so you might slide some edges or even delete or add some to “match better”..
