modelling a deckchair

Ok, so I’m basically a newbie (sorry about that - I’m doing the best I can!), so excuse me if this is a common modelling request: I want to make a model of a deckchair (simple canvas/wood one). I have done a basic model, which I’m happy with up to a point. The problem is modelling the deformation of the canvas when someone sits in the chair…

I suppose the first question would be “should I wait for the re-introduction of the Game Engine” (which I read is very soon!) since the physics model within that could do what I’m after… Otherwise, are there any techniques for this kind of modelling? Initially I want to render a simple scene, later I may want to animate it as well…

john… (slowly working through the Blender manual!)

you COULD sibdiv it a few times, select the bottom half of the middle row of verts, press O, and move them down, whilst scrolling with mmb for the right amount of movyness…

if u didnt understand something, try it, then ask

Skel is wise. I’d use Subsurf and the proportional editing tool (key O) for best results. Made an old matress that way and it turned out nice.
