Modelling a door on a clay hut

Hi all,
I’m still a newb at Blender, and I have a lot of trouble modelling at times. The images below are of an adobe hut (it reall an adobe style? I don’t know).

I’ve been working on this for about 20-30 mins. The door is what I’m having the most trouble with. The hut itself is a cube mesh with a subsurf of 3. I extruded some faces of the cube out and adjusted them, then I did the same to some of the faces within the door and pulled them inward towards the center fo the hut.

My main question is, is there a better way to model doors? This way seems to leave jagged places around the edges, and doesn’t really produce any desired results, it just looks awkward.

Thanks!

uhh! looks like ive exceeded bandwidth. let me upload them somewhere else…

ok, they’re uploaded… to a different division of village photos :-?
anyone know a better free hosting site?

Well, you could cut a doorway with the knife tool ( K key ) , delete the inner vertices, and extrude the edges inward, and then stick a door on it.

I too would say, just make a hole, where the door should be and create a door as a seperate mesh. Doesn’t look very good the way you did it. And you can’t open the door that way!

model the door seperately , do a boolean intersect, and then put the door in place scaled down a tad…

Thanks, guys. How do you use the knife tool? I don’t understand how to cut it. Or should I do a boolean intersect like enroper said?
