Modelling a P-36A for use in two images

Hi,

I’m creating this airplane for use in two images. I’ll keep it relatively simple and not very detailed. The model is about finished now, I’ll need a pilot and textures still, of course. I’ll take a look at the textures today.

Wow! Wonderful modelling! Looking forward to the textures!!
Nothing to crit at this point…

Looks so great! - can’t wait to see more.
Could you post a wireframe, just to satisfy my curiosity, as to how you put it together? or even a .blend file (would be SO great!)

Hey, I’ve been working on the same model. But my reference image isn’t great. Do you know what’s the model name? Also, I’m stuck trying to model the cockpit…any pointers?

I’ll post some wire shots later today (=today in finland). I can post my .blend when it’s finished.

Sorry, what do you mean by model name? It’s Version P-36A Curtiss model number 75L. I won’t model the cockpit itself - it’s just an empty pit =) The only thing I have in mind is a pilot and a seat of some kind. Without good reference pictures modeling the cockpit is virtually impossible.

I’m sorry, by cockpit, I mean the sliding cockpit window. I’m stuck on that…not able to get a proper shape. Did u model the plane section by section?

Ok, you mean canopy. I made it completely using subsurfs, as with everything else. The plane is modeled in a few parts, yes - fuselage, wings, vertical and horizontal stabilizer, rudder, elevators and ailerons (with trim) make up the biggest part. The cowling is seperate, as is the engine, landing gear and the canopy.

Here’s a couple wires.

That’s great!

Looks great!

That is awesome. I love WWII fighters, Id like to see you do a p-51 or corsair. Looking forward to the finished product!

Ok, latest update. I’m no texture wizard so I had to make this sketch (among others) first to figure out a way to create what I want. I found a way I think, so this is a bit like an early preview of the final appearance.

THATS SO NICE! :o

A very impressive model. On the texturing, remember to aid some oil splatter and dirt near the engine - these planes weren’t built to be environmentally friendly after all.

:o I like it…Is it UV or not?

How do you get those wire renders?

Awsome model, and I like the texture the way it is :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes I want it looking worn and used =)

How do you get those wire renders?

By using the ‘wire’ button in materials. I noticed that wire will render shadeless if using autosmooth, so I needed to uncheck autosmooth for the wires to show correctly (using blender cvs).

Thanks all,
Mats

Is it UV or not?

Yes UV mapped all the way

Nice job!

When do you think you will come out with a .blend? I’m really interested in seeing how you did the cockpit and wings joing with the body.

Is it subsurfaced or not?

 Nice airplane your got there.

When you have time could you post
some shaded renderings of the plane
with out any smoothing and set Draw Extra
to Wire then turn on the Modifier SubSurf?
No need to render with F12 just hit
the Render this Window button next to
the Lock layers button.
