I intend on modelling a grand piano soon (or in the near future) and I have one main problem…That Piano blueprints are IMPOSSIBLE to find.I have searched through hundreds of pages on goole searching a variety of different things trying to get blueprints for pianoes.
I want the piano to end up photorealistic (or as near as I can with my level of skill) and I figured it would be an excelent project to help my modelling skills and making good decsions when it comes to Topo and the like.
But again, I don’t want to start without reference, and a Piano being a very 3D object (not like a guitar, for example, where a guitar is fairly flat and isn’t difficult at all, a piano on the other hand…) I wanted to make sure that it looks right. And I would really like to use blueprints as opposed to just reference pictures because of the very nature of the piano shape.
I know I am over-explaining myself, so here is a summary.
I need blueprints of a piano, because I want to model one and I don’t want it to look like crap.
Fazioli have front, side and top outlines (complete with dimensions) of all their pianos on their website (select Products->Grand pianos->size of piano ). You could make a blocked-out model from that as a starting point, and then add details from reference photos. In fact, I’m tempted to do just that myself …
If you really want a detailed blueprint, I suggest you go and ask the nice people at Piano World; tell them I sent you ;).
Yeah thanks heaps Mcollet, that was a real help. Atleast now I can make a good start on the meshes, then I can use some more reference pictures for any details I can’t get with just the viewpoints.
Who knows, maybe it will end up in the gallery some day
