Modelling cartoon eyeballs?

I need to make some eyeballs for this gal - I’m sure I can model the area around the eye, the lids and such, but first I need eyeballs. What’s the best way to go about it? Years ago, in MAX 1.2 I think, I put a spherical eyeball model in a lattice, flattened it down and deformed it, then rotated the eyeball inside the lattice. Worked good, but that was a long time ago. Have we got anything better now?

Er. Who put that there? It looks like an out of date mirror of my site. Here it actually is, updated for the 2.3 GUI: http://blenderchar.weirdhat.com/eyetute/

You might find this one useful too: http://blenderchar.weirdhat.com/latticetute1/

Thanks. That’s pretty much what I did with MAX. Are there any newer techniques?
