modelling random junk

i was just wondering if anyone knows any good links or hints on modelling junk to help “fill out” a scene, like junk in a delapitated apartment, should i just keep modelling random bits of junk when i get bored? i know a lot of background stuff is just painted on, like background vistas and stuf that wont be moving. i am working on a delapitated apartment scene and im just looking for links and tips to help speed up the process. my modelling skills are good but my painting skills are not, for textures i will probably rearrange bits and pieces of grunge textures from my texture collection, most of which come from cgitextures.com(i worry about copyright stuff). anyways, any help or links will be much appreciated, thanks.
