While I was modeling in Blender 4.3, I switched to material preview mode to texture it, but the models appear to be black! I wanted to make sure that this wasn’t universal, so I went to version 4.0 (the latest version of Blender I have before 4.3) and noticed that the mistake didn’t persist, and that the models retain their original textures.
I’ve noticed that if I go to Rendered view in Eevee, the model is still dark unless I add a light-source (That sounds obvious at first, but what I mean is the the model is pitch black without a lightsource rather than just shaded dark). I also noticed that shadows are much darker than usual in spite of the background color strenghth. The issue doesn’t happen in cycles, and it also doesn’t happen if I turn on Raytracing and drag the treshold up to “1.00”, but I don’t plan to always have raytracing on when I model.
It should be noted that I reset my graphics drive a short while back, as for some reason I couldn’t open up Blender files. I’m not sure if that’s the cause of the problem, but I don’t want to do it again at the risk of further increasing the issue.
No, those settings are off. Also, as it turns out, the rendered view is fine, it’s just that the black texture makes it look darker than it actually is.
I will upload a file to showcase the issue (if it is replicapble in the first place; it only happens in 4.3)
O once again, I unintsalled and reinstald my graphics drivers/display adapters. Didn’t work.
I reinstalled Blender 4.3.
Didn’t work either.
I turned my computer off and turned it back on again.
Surprisingly, it didn’t work.
I was thinking about just downgrading back to 4.0, but since I made some of the models in 4.3, I can’t get the lighting to work in newer files unless I copy them and paste them to a clean file. Probably has something to do with the lack of EEVEE Next (the main reason I downloaded the newer version of Blender).
