Yucca Schidigera also know as Mojave Yucca, grows in southern California, the Mojave Desert and down into Baja California. Fibers from its leaves are strong and versatile, often used by Native Americans to make cord, cloth, thread, and sandals. Seeds from its fruit can be used to make flour and its flowers and fruits are edible and offer different medicinal uses.
This companion piece focuses on the yucca moth, the plant’s sole pollinator. The two are inseparable and rely on each other for survival in a form of mutualism. Yucca moths make the flowers their home where they lay their eggs. As part of this they will pollinate the flower which will in time transform it into a fruit that the newborn larvae will later eat. The moth has special tendrils around its mouth that it uses to carry and place the collected pollen from other flowers.
Test prints! Always had printing in mind when creating this piece and I’m really happy with how the prints turned out.
This artwork is part of a series I’ve been doing in my spare time as an excuse to learn more about the nature and the plants around us. It’s a lot of fun! Has also doubled as a nice therapeutic exercise.
Looks great! The colors and composition are very elegant and it’s definitely something that could be hung in an art gallery. Would love to see more of the series eventually.
Nicely done! On first glance, I thought this was a painting. Have you experimented with any of the compositing effects to play with additional painterly styles like watercolor?

Thank you so much! I really like the simplicity of this style and that’s exactly the kinda vibe I wanted it to have.
I’ve thought about trying out stuff in the compositor and someone else has suggested the same to me. My only concern is with overcomplicating it but I like that, plus maybe trying a canvas texture to the digital version to give it a lil more of that feeling.
