This is a scene ive been working on, Its not quite done, i need to tweak some stuff, but before i put the “Seal of Approval” on it, I thought Id put it up and see what people think. therefore feedback would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks guys!
The wall, floor, and chair are very realistic looking, as is the lighting, however, the candle holder and flames themselves don’t looks as though they belong in the scene as much. I think maybe the texture on the holder is too bright? Not sure what the problem is exactly. Also, the floor and wall meet too abruply and regularly. Try making some bumps and divits where they meet. I’ve been inside and on many castles, and I can assure you none of them were that geometrically correct. Other than those two things! Fantastic moody work!
The first thing I’d recommend is to try and clean up your wall texture a little bit. It looks like there are noticible seams in it (although I’m not 100% sure). I’d also maybe try n’ bump up the floor slightly. I like the silhouette of the candleabrathingy, but I’d be interested in seeing a little bit more detail (kinda as if light were emitted from your flames).
What’s is for? Is there a story behind it, or was it a scene you just wanted to make?
Like alot the visible light and the lighting of the wall. Think you could try and make the bumpmap of the wall a bit more noisy (crumpled?) inbetween the bricks? and also vary the colours a bit more in the diffuse map with, and perhaps a specular map to vary the shinyness on the wall (that is if you are using mappings for those). Perhaps a local “fakeiosity” light to beam up the light on the candle holder, and less red colour on the flames and more white-to-yellow-to-orange-to-transparent (red with lots of alpha value as the last stage in the flame)…
Overall very promising and great moody feeling!
the fire in the candles is the only thing that doesn’t look as great as teh other elements, everything’s so real, but the fire in the candels, that’s IMO
BEAUTIFUL, the only thing is the wall, its got 2 seams that are annoying, but i like it, maybe more work in the candles, but nice!
ok guys, i think im done, im hangin up my brush-
thanx for the comments they helped alot -
to finish it I:
-remapped the wall texture (the seam is till there, but now is inline with the window so you dont notice it unless ur looking for it)
-added roughness om the floor seam (not too much, just enough to break up the line)
-retouched the candles
-bumped up the floor
-added a fakiosity light (thanx petterms) and retouched the stand material to fit better
-i tested individual shadow lamps for each light, but the visible difference wasnt worth the render time, so i stuck with the shadows i have
Thanx for the comments guys, they really helped, im really proud of this pic!
round of a applause You have no idea how much better it looks. Then again from your post you seem to be pretty happy with it so maybe you do have a good idea! The biggest improvement by far is the wall…it really looks great, as do the candle flames. Its as if I’m really sitting 600 years back in time wondering when the werewolves will come…
Your changes are a definite improvement. Keep up the great work.
wow, very nic., perhaps rotate the candle stand a little so it doesnt look so flat?
Light a match and study the flame. Beyond that nice work.
