Well, I submitted this for the weekend contest, but I’m pretty much DQ’ed cuz movies aren’t allowed (we should set up a movie contest in tandem with the weekend challenge). Anyway, here’s the cut I submitted. It’s rough, but I was more or less able to churn it out in a couple evenings. Mad props to the MakeHuman team for the foundation of the alien model.
The rover model sucks, but it was sort of an afterthought. The model is rigged to do a more than it does in the clip, but I’d like to get people’s opinions of the thing so far so I can forge bold new directions when I come back to it.
Very funny animation. Unfortunately the martian thief gets killed in the end. He directly flies through that antenna or probe thing on top of the mars rover.
Yeah, that sucked. I was pressed for time, so I tacked that on. What I really wanted to do was have the Martian dive off and have the rover drive off the side of a cliff, maybe with a really cool Thema and Louse shot of the thing going over the side, perhaps followed by some commentary by the alien, and an another alien, about how “totally hosed” the rover is. But, as you can imagine, it was easier to chuck the alien into the distance.
