It would be great if Blender handled audio the way Cinema4D does. This means wave form editor, in out cue points. Volume control and mapping of frequency and amplitude to either IPO or some global object that a script can poll at a specific time to operate on the audio data.
I have a feeling that many of you mix audio quality with a MIDI format. Questions like: “Who listen MIDI nowadays?” just prove such a confusions. MIDI have nothing to do with an audio quality, like SMPTE have nothing to do with a video quality on example. MIDI is a standard protocol for music synchronization, but it’s also used for a different coordination. Check this out:
Sounds like a perfect additional standard for our beloved BGE to me.
I would like to see support for simulation of true surround sound in blender. Attach sound sources to objects and map them to a microphone setup at the camera. Also support for the dopler effect.
Midi sounds ugly, who would like to play midis on a 3D game??
You are one of those i mentioned before… That’s like if you say that is computer graphics ugly because you have 8 colors only… Buy a better hardware man! In almost all electronic music is MIDI involved if you didn’t know. Only some old analog synths does not support MIDI.
But MIDI is not about quality as i said, it’s about sync. On example, this would take ages to make it without MIDI:
It’d be far more useful if we could have some kind of function that
could “react” or send a “signal/reaction/variable” or “controller” in conjunction
with a certain frequency response in a waveform!
It would be great if Blender had a decent sound system built in. MIDI would be cool, as well as a few other bits and peices to make making movies generally easier.
It would be great if we eventually had a node system where you could put reverb and noise filters and other processing nodes onto your soundtrack before it went to ‘print’.
Oh well, first things first.
Maybe A SOC project might be in order to improve the sound system in Blender?
I think there was a SOC project last year, I could be wrong though. I know that there is limited Dev power in this area, which could explain the sparseness. Maybe start a fund like the nurbs project?
I dont think that an audio engine is too important right now.
reverv and other effects can be easily added with audacity for example.
I talk about audio reactive built in , soundtracker built in and improved , midi import built in and in general more midi audio tool targeted to animation.
