Morph Targets on Bezier curve, Blender 2.55 BUG?

I’ve started with a Bezier curve, cleared the tilt, and extruded. From here I added a base shape key, added a few more, edit mode, changed shape. When I update the value on any give shape key every verticy picks up a random rotation.

When I tab back into edit mode the everything looks good, but when going back to object mode the shape again has the same random rotation.

Am I the only person getting this?
