sweet, where can i get reptile, and why such small textures?
I put up a link to it in the other software forum awhile back. They are so small because they are intended to be repeated quite a few times. If I made them large, it would just be a waste of pixelage. With most of those, you can’t really tell what they look like until you’ve repeated them a few times.
wouldnt it get sorta repetitive?
On some of them it is supposed to be, but others are random enough to where the effect isn’t noticable. The trick is to layer them at different frequencies. Too add more texture channels, just go to textures, click on one of the empty bars>>add new.
yea, this has inspired me to do my own, and it doesnt even stay close to yours, would you like me to post it here or PM it to you?
Sure, post it up. Let’s see it.
for some reason the textures have some wierd artifacts, so i rendered it with no textures and no color, the color thats there is from the lights
That’s a pretty nice job, and btw I can’t take credit for the mesh, I generated it with terragen.
terragen?!?! how could you?? lol, its a blender render right? how did u get it from one place to another??
Terragen can export surface maps as light wave objects, then you need to put them through a convertor and make them into DXFs. ( i recommend accutrans )
Hi Modron,
Why not use ter2blend?

Worldforge by S68 is also good. even makes rocks - astroids etc.
Also there is terain_tool by jimmy haze.

This one lets you see changes to the terrain in realtime
Ken
I use all of those, except for jimmy hazes tool, and maybe I will try that too. At other times, I also use: a grass generator, a plant maker, and now I even have a rock maker. Also city block generator, of course. Pretty soon, I will be able to push a button, and, well, who knows what will pop up. btw I just downloaded the latest terragen,…freshly released.
<edit> oh and don’t forget Lsystem, and the makehuman plugin!
I’ve got Terragen, how can I import mesh and such into Blender?
Boggy
2 ways to do it,…1) export from terragen as LWO and use a convertor,( its in the menu at the top of your surface window under 'export )
or 2 use the python script ‘ter2blend’. good luck.
Good work Modron. You can also use the proportional editing tools. A bit more tricky though.
well, that’s true, but it sounds like it might require actual effort. [!]
Not as much as rigging and animating characters. My head is hurting from doing that this last month.
thats what i do, i subdivide a plane a few times, then fractal subdivide, then PET, more, and agian, then place the camera, then test render, then fract subdivide the areas facing the camera
Great image, especially the second one. I somehow have a little bit a feeling that these are very soft rocks, but that might be because I’m very tired right now.
Thanks. I just got done making alpha maps of this 40 meg coniferous tree I made, so my next one is going to have some serious forestation. I think I will try using WorldForge this time. It’s a LOT of fun when you get the hang of it.
