move a face along normal direction

hi all

i encountered followin gproblem.

since i have my origin in nurbs modeling i am used when i add a u or v in a patch the curvature of the curved patch will remain.

when i create a patch in blender with subdiv and apply the loopcut for example than i get a flat area since the new added points are just excatly between the parent points so these three points form a line.

what i would like than is to move the points away so i get the curv back.
with nurbs next to scale you have expand which moves cv and so also faces along the normal vector.

is this possible in blender? this would be a big time safer in blender when you model characters since you dont need to push and pull so much after a loop cut.

alt-s just forgot about it

but

is it possible to combine this tool with a magnet feature?

i mean when i select a loop i only want to move few points and not
all the same amount so like from the clicked cv to the left and right the points move less and less until the rest even dont move at all.

The loop cut in tuhopuu2 has been updated so that you can press S before cutting to subdivide smooth, rather than plain subdivide. This helps to preserve the contour of a subsurf.

And, is proportional editing not suitable for your second question?

know i understand what s is for there.
but it is kinda stange to use.

i would be nice if the app just decides itself where to place the new points to remain the subdiv surface curvature. since when it does not work you have to undo it and try again. it is a kinda trial on error process

but anyway thanks for that tip. i can use it for something different!
