Move a line with one end following a tracking path while the other end is still

Hi everyone!

Great forum, it has been a great source of information while learning Blender :slight_smile:

Now on to the question;

I’m working with video and using Motion Tracking to create tracking paths on certain areas of the video.

What I’m trying to do is:

  • create a Text Object which will be in a fixed location (i.e. will not move) in the frame.

  • create a tracking path using Motion Tracking so I can create an object that moves with the area in the video

  • create a line that is between both objects, but with the behaviour

  • end connected to Text Object does not move (since the text object isn’t moving)

  • end connected to tracking path moves with the tracking path

I’m able to do items nr. 1 and nr. 2, but I haven’t figured out item nr. 3.

What I would like is for the line to dynamically change based on the position between the Text Object and Tracking Path Object.

Is there a way to achieve this with Blender?

A video of a similiar effect I’m trying to achieve can be found on youtube like this:

  • I would post a direct link to the video, but I haven’t hit the mark yet for quantity of posts :frowning:

Use a hook modifier on the part of the line you want to move and animate the hook, or parent it to the moving object, or designate the moving object as the hook
