ok, I am quite new to blender, but I have used for example 3d studio. I am having trouble working with keys on the timeline, I can’t seem to find anything that says how to do it… so either it is so basic that doesn’t deserve mention or … gasp
move them?
I created some objects. I have animated them and all is going well… but my time line, well, I have stretched it out to like 20s and really it should only be half that.
Easiest is if I could just grab my 'key’s and move them and the animation points in the curve window of each object that they are connected to … problem is I can’t seem to move them? I can go into the curve editor and move points but that is horribly tedious since I can only seem to get one object at a time active… anyone know how to move keys on the timeline?
copy them?
also, sometimes keys (and the animation points for the objects) would be really good to be able to copy, for example to create a pause… how do you copy a key?
Sorry for the trouble, but I really would appreciate some assistance with this!
In Blender, editing on the timeline is like editing anywhere else. If you want to move points, you have to TAB into edit mode. From there, you can change them just about like any other curve in the application.
Fweeb… thanks, but I actually did try that (along with ctrl, alt, shift and different mouse combinations :|) , I am using the preset animation workspace (scr:1-animation), and when as near as I can tell I am “in” the timeline, if I hit tab, it just sets the first object selected (even if all are) in edit mode… actually all the keys in the timeline simply dissappear at that point.
maybe I’m using the wrong terminology, I am meaning I want to drag and duplicate (and delete) the little yellow lines in the timeline workspace without having to go into each and every object and micro-manage modify the points in the IPO window. As an example, I have set a key for different movment of 10 different objects at 4s I want what happens at 4s to happen at 1s instead!
Point at the IPO editor window and hit the K-key. A vertical line will appear for every key. You can then grab any of these lines with RMB and use G-key to move all the keyframes aligned with that time-point.
You can also use Shift-D to duplicate the selected “column” of keys, X to delete, or switch to Edit mode and scale them (vertically).
hmm… works well, for a single object it turns out but I can’t figure out how to edit the keys for multiple objects.
Is there a way to select all the keys for all the objects at the same time? moving 10 keys for 10 objects is alot of mucking about… I figure it should be possible, since you are able to add the key to them all with a single stroke?
It seems the NLA editor is really the way to go… I am working through getting it to work, it seems to be one of those things that is best set up from the begining
as I dug into actions and NLA I got as well into constraints and came up with a couple more question, started a new topic since it didn’t really apply to this one … http://elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=590015#590015
