Is there a way to move (in my case an edge) at a right angle to its current position. Obviously, if for example it was a centered cube, I could use the arrows to move it on the x/y/z axis appropriately, but I’m using an oblong shape divided into pieces so the x/y/z isn’t good enough.
You can’t see so clearly, but here the arrow for the x axis doesn’t move the edge perfectly to a right angle. I’m hoping there is a hotkey I’m unfamiliar with as this is quite a common problem for me, so far I’ve just been judging it by eye as best I can but as I get better with Blender I’m becoming more picky about these things.
Hope I explained it clearly, if not let me know and I’ll try again.
I dont know if it will work for that, but sometimes its very useful, edge slide can be a nice try too, try to move that edge pressing G twice, if nothing works go for the hard method top view, wireframe mode and align by hand
Create a custom transform using an edge to define the axis. Then pick that as the transform type. Then set the reference position to 3D cursor. Place 3D cursor at the vertex you want to align to using cursor snapping. Then scale using shift-(axis) twice to use the custom transform (may take a few tries to find the correct one), and scale to zero.
