moving camera?

sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but i didnt know where to put it

i was wondering how i animated the camera to move or pan around

my idea is that im going to create a bunch of corridors like a maze structure, have the camera move through them in a set path and export the animation as a series of images to put them into Flash and make a game like House Of The Dead, but with DooM graphics, simple 2D enemies which will be added by my college tutor

how do i animate the camera to move around?

ok well i got the tutorial on wikibooks but it tells me to change somthing to Path in the IPO or w/e on the right hand side, i dont have a Path option

and the animation stops at 100, not 250 even though the timeline is highlighted untill 250…wtf?! i set 250 as the end but it doesnt change anything, i follow the tut and “view keys” and nothing happens, a menu changes but nothing shows up on screen to “grab” and move a keyframe to 250

this sort of thing always puts me in a bad mood because tutorials go “do this then that then this then that” and at no point can i say “wait a minute, i cant” because im reading what someone else has written

can anyone help please…

there are 2 ways to do it

key frame the camera
or parent it to a path

if you want to parent the camera to follow a path
create the path > select the camera > shift select the path > Shift P (path follow)

then you will need to change the length of the path (in frames) because the default is 100
this is located in the edit buttons for the path - you will need to change “PathLen” to 250 if you animation is 250 frames long

in the IPO window - next to the little stick figure man there is a pull down option to change the IPO view
(double arrow) this is where you will find the path option
but the only option for path is speed
so here is where you can make the camera speed up and slow down on certain spots on the path

hope this will sort you out

i havnt really animated before so this would be were i start, how would i key frame? simply move the camera and add a keyframe?

skip the first minute or so of this video
but it explains how to keyframe

oh wow that makes so much sence haha!

thanks so much! ill use this instead of the curve method, keyframing is somthing im using too from doing 2D animations hah

thanks alot man
