Moving manipulator?

My transformation manipulator (the thing with the three arrows used to move/scale/rotate) is far away from the object it controls. How can I move it? Alt S does not have the right option, i suppose i can place the cursor where i want, but then i need an option for manipulator > cursor. How do I do this?

It works off the object center. Place the center of the object where you want it. For putting it at the center of the object use ‘center new’ in edit panel (F9) or ‘center cursor’.
