Moving uv shells?

I seem to be having the worst problems with learning how to uv unwrap. With Maya you can select an edge and move it to the other edge that lit up and you sew them.

I was wondering, can you do the same with Blender. Here is a pick of what i am talking about . I have watched tutorials but they only do cubes and cylinders.

Normal select and move tools apply in the Uv editor window.
Also V = stitch
