I need to create a texture of a concrete barrier wall where start/end are unique and wall-sides are U repeating (tileable textures) Can Blender could help with that? Any plugin supporting material layers over multi-material/textures output? Contrary to Substance Painter I see Blender could paint across multiple materials assigned at least? Is there something more?
Hi,
Yeah, it’s possible to make it through vanilla Blender (at least if I get you right). There are few add-ons I’ve just came across that might help you with that as well in terms of simplifying the whole process (just Google it), but aside from that, like I’ve just said before – you can achieve this through vanilla Blender only. Here’s what you would need to do, namely:
- Split your model’s UV into three different areas (zones), namely “head”, “middle”, and “bottom”;
- You can use either a single material (which is the best for tiling control) or multiple ones (head, middle, and bottom accordingly).
In Shading tab, your nodes are gonna look something like this:
Mapping Node → Vector Math → Image Texture.
Now, try to scale your UVs or use math node in order to tile only the center zone. I’m sorry, am not longer near my PC, so I can’t show you all these steps in detail (such as screenshots. etc.)
Hope that helps,
Cheers
Thanks for the tips goorman. I see some addons free and paid . Is there something that could automate multi material /texture bake, Is it at all possible to bake into several materials at once and then export textures?. Have shared materials layers /node setup accross multiple materials . I mean not UDIM squares but really diffrent form factor texture sets? like tilable front 4kx512 and unique parts 256x512 ?
Substance Painter does a hell of a blurry baker and texture on narrow stripes. for example
I installed a free one “HAS paint layers” but it seems it works with one material only .
Afaik, it’s possible via add-ons. yes. But I don’t know whether they free or not (probably not).
