Multiple blender versions

Ok so I’ve read the best version of blender for scripts is 2.23 and so I installed that version and I’ve had much more luck running scripts. However if I install 2.27 and 2.23, 2.23 always crashes. Is it just not possible to have multiple installs? It is kind of a big nuisance to have to switch versions every time I want to bring my wings file into blender.

Also does any one know if blender will have native support for any mainstream file formats like obj or 3ds eventually? It really needs something like this.

I’m running 5 different versions of Blender on the same computer without any problem. Just make sure that your .b.blend (the startup file) does not include informations that is not backward compatible (language setup and NLA, mostly).

Thank you for your reply. I can’t imagine how I would change the default start up file since I’m not skilled enough with blender to really know where that file is in fact. I tried a clean install of 2.23 with 2.27 on top and vice versa and neither worked out. If that file did indeed get updated with non backwards compatible information how would I fix it? save over it with blender 2.23? And then there is the issue of locating it. I searched my computer for all .blend files and found nothing which looked like it would work.
In case you can’t tell I’m fairly new to blender, I just recently figured out that beast of an interface. Really great program though once you pull back that layer

when you start blender it tells you on the little pop up screen how to update that file - also if you are putting the versions in the same directory that is probably a bad idea - keep everything seperate.

Hi,

I don’t really have a solution to your problem (sorry). But could you please
tell me where I can get blender 2.23 from?

Thanks a lot.

Hey wglwill,

Open blender. Set up your 3D window the way you would like it to start up. Then hit Control+U and click “SAVE USER DEFAULTS”.

That scene now becomes the b.blend.
