I searched, and reviewed the wiki, but could not find anything explicitly stating that multiple halo materials aren’t supported. However, when I try adding multiple materials, each a halo, only the first material is rendered, using all verts.
I created a basic cube, selected 4 faces in turn, and created a new material index and assigned them. Next, in the links and pipeline, I made each material a different color and halo type material.
In object mode, the cube now looks like 4 verts - as expected, but rendering only shows the color of the first material. Another odd thing, if I deleted the link to the first material, in object mode, it looks like a normal cube - even though all materials assigned are halos. Only when I went back and deleted the first material index did the cube look like a halo object.
Am I expecting to much from halos? I also tried multiple materials in an object that had 2 separate faces - not sharing an edge, and got the same result.
