My project really isn’t a game per say, but a VR test of sorts basically I’m modeling the various rooms in my house and I’m going to connect them all eventually, but do I have to model them all in the same file or can I to save on my insanity later link separate blend files? I’ve been blending for a long time but have spent several years away from it and seem to remember something of the kind, though it’s probably changed from the way you used to do it.
i did some testing, and as far as i know, you can link stuff, however…
when you link an object from one blend file to another, you dont seem to be able to move them.
also, if you edit the object that is linked in its original blend file, save, and reopen the blendfile of witch it has been linked to, the object will automatically be updated.
note there is another feature called Append, so you can get everything into one blend scene and put it all together there. this will not create a link however, but you get the mesh into the blend file.
if you have two blenders open at once, you can also simply CTRL C + V to copy and paste the objects from one file to another…
all this said, personally, i recomend you keeping everything in one blend file, and instead separate by layers. you have 20 layers to work with, witch should be enough. just have ur own layer system so you can find ur stuff
happy blending!
Thanks for the advice, I’ve never done anything quite this complicated, but it’s been fun!
I think what your looking for is to APPEND the individual rooms to change the position, rotation, scaling of the blend files independent to each original blend file of each room.

WOW blender usually just messes with the software, now they have changed the whole website!
how do i post a question now?
anyway. we need to accurately make a room with accurate furniture.
now we can see how many feet everything is, but how do i translate that to old blnder? (2.67)
thanks all
