Multiple Textures in Single File

How can I create a list of textures I can use as I work. It looks like I should be able to combine and apply them through the Materials list. As many times as I try I can’t seem to get consistent results.

Also, what is the difference between the different places where color can be applied?

Finally, all my textures seem to come out too dark. There are a couple of things I would like to paint white. They never come out white, only shades of gray.

Not quite sure what you mean by that but in F6 buttons there are ten seperate slots for each Material. If you want unlinked textures to stay in the file you can either goto File >> Pack Data or press the F in the TE Datablock to create a fake user. To see all textures in a .blend you can use the Data Select library (Shft-F4).

Color can be added to the Material (F5), Nodes (F5-Link to Objects and the Nodes Window) Material Textures (F6) the UV Editor (Shft-F10), Vertex Paint and Texture Paint.

White has been discussed ad nausium, just do a search in Support forums.
