Multiple UV coordinates for one mesh?

Say I’m texturing a tire. I find it convenient to put the sidewall texture by projecting UV’s from sides. But for general dirt I want a different, more accurate unwrap.

So can I unwrap the mesh in one way for some textures and in another way for other textures.

Note that this is only an example, I’m aware that the sidewall texture could easily use the object or generated texture coordinates.

Use the attribute node available in newer builds. Just enter in teh name you give your uv map.Adjust the color mix node to what you need.

Properties->Mesh->UV Maps->+ creates a new UV layer that you can unwrap as you wish, up to a maximum of 8 layers. Each texture can then specify which map it wants to use: when Textures->Coordinates->Mapping is set to UV, there is a box Map immediately below.

an you give the step you get it to work

i tried to do that
now here i guess all the UV map and unwrapping has to be done before you go into Cycles

i added UV map in Mesh data then went to texture and added first texture image then to the UV editor and uwnrap for this image
then repeat for the second image

and then i went to cycles and it did not work !

is ther a short video showing how to do that might be fater to show it then explain it in words ?

You can unwrap in cycles just fine. It seems to work better if you assign a material and texture to the object and then unwrap.

so you don’t have to assign the Unwrap an image in UV editor
you do it directly in the Node editor in Texture image node cycles?

Yes, when you select the image node and unwrap, the image will be in the uv image editor.

do you mean you load the UV map in image node then go to UV editor and do the unwrap?

what is the atribute name field
is this a name you give or is it like uv map name ?

and one thing is the number of UV map limited to 8 or is it 18 like number of texture channel?

I dont have the software for vid capture.
The attribute name field is the name you give to the particular uv unwrap in the object data section.
It looks like your limited to 8.

did a new test
and oes it means that the 2 UV image will overlay over ech other

or only function of image and faces unwrap ?

i tried to unwrap only one face on a cube with no seams

and it seems to cover the all the faces ?
how can i have only one face for one UVimage ?

is it possible to unwrap and assign the faces to one image only and how?

i tried and cannot get faces for unwrap 1 to image 1 and unwrap another set of faces assign to another image2

there was this local view but when i check it i don’t see any faces anymore!
